Meet Your School Counselor

Hello!

As the counselor at Arcadia Elementary School, I will work with parents, teachers and students to maximize student success at school. I am available to provide the following services:

Individual Counseling/Guidance – Meetings focus on student strengths and help to strengthen coping skills. Students can self refer or they can be referred by parents or teachers
Classroom Guidance – All students receive classroom guidance lessons focusing on bully prevention, problem solving, friendship skills, etc.
Group Counseling – Structured groups require parental permission and focus on a specific skill such as social skills, friendship, study skills etc.
Consultation – Address strengths and concerns with parents and teachers and provide recommendations and referrals

I really look forward to working with you and your family.

For more information about school counselors, our code of ethics, and helpful resources for parents, please feel free to contact me or visit the American School Counselor Association's website at http://www.schoolcounselor.org/.

Hope to talk with you soon!

Parent involvement in your child's education is vital to success. Below are some resources that might be helpful in navigating the trials and tribulations of raising your 'Awesome' children.

STEPS TO RESPECT:

Manage Your Feelings and Actions

  • Check your feelings. For Example:
    • "I feel __________________________________________________."
  • Decide what to do. For example:
    • "I need to get cool and calm."
    • "I'm okay."
  • What to do if you need to get cool and calm:
    • Take a deep breath.
    • Say to yourself, "Cool and Calm," five times.
    • Take another deep breath.

The 3Rs of Bullying
Recognize
If You Don' Feel Safe
If You Feel Safe
Report
Refuse

Solving Problems

1. Ask, "What is the problem?"

2. Ask, "What are some possible solutions?"

3. For each possible solution, ask, "Is it fair?" and "How might people feel?"

4. Choose a solution and use it.

5. Ask, "Is the solution working?" If not, ask yourself, "What can I do now?"

Working It Out

1. Respectfully ask, "What is wrong?"

2. Listen carefully and think about your friend's point of view.

3. Figure out what to do to make it better.

4. Ask yourself, "Is it working?" If it is not working, try something else.
