Hello ‘Awesome’ Arcadia Families,

November is a very special month for many of us, but especially for me.  Two of the reasons for this special time are:  Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving!  Veteran’s Day is a day of honor and pride for my family.  My father was a Veteran as well as being a wonderful man.  His service for the United States was during World War II and he saw some very incredible things happen that made an impression on him all his life.  Art Weber taught us to always have respect for the symbol of our country, the Flag of the United States, and to take responsibility when someone may be de-facing it.  He taught us that to leave a family and go to war is one of the most giving things any one could ever do.  The men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country are to be honored, remembered, and given heartfelt pride.  Veteran’s Day was a wonderful day in my family, and our thoughts and prayers were given to the entire Veteran’s throughout time.

Thanksgiving is a time that should be happening throughout the year, and becoming even more special in November.  As children, the Weber kids, were taught to be ‘Thankful’ for everything in our lives.  We were taught manners – to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, to be respectful and appreciative to everyone – even if they had made us angry, and to be the best and most thoughtful human beings we could be.  Our Thanksgiving meal began with my father beginning a sentence that we all had to complete as we went around the table.  He would say, “This year I have been very thankful for………, and in our own words our response had to have over 5 reasons, because we had 5 people in my family (and we were thankful for our family).  It was always so much fun, and when relatives or friends were visiting, they too, had to be a part of the Weber ‘thankfulness’.

At ‘Awesome’ Arcadia we are thankful each and every day for our families, our beautiful school, our teachers and adults who help us, and for our lives that are filled with learning.  We want to tell everyone in our Deer Park Community that we are thankful to them for their support and care. Thank you, also, to our Veteran’s for their help in keeping the freedoms that we have in the United States of America.  Let Freedom Ring!

Have a grateful and warm holiday season.  We are so thankful to be here and be a part of this wonderful community.

Mrs. B!

It is our goal to make this a safe learning environment for ALL staff and students.

Visitors and Parents

Parents are always welcome in our schools. We ask that any adults that visit our school check in at the office and receive a Visitor's Badge. All doors are locked during the day for safety reasons. You will need to enter the school through the main entrance.

School Pictures

As a service to parents, individual pictures are taken in the fall and class pictures in the spring. It is not required that you purchase them.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Conferences are scheduled in the fall and spring for all students. The vital link between home and school is strengthened by close communication between the parent and teacher. We sincerely hope you will take this opportunity to discuss your child's progress.

PTCA

'Awesome' Arcadia invites all parents to attend Parents Teachers and Community for Arcadia meetings. See the calendar for the schedule.

Telephone and Address Changes

Please notify the school immediately if there are any changes in your address, phone number, day care provider, or emergency contact names and numbers. This information is very important in case we need to contact you about your child.

Breakfast and Lunch at School

A FREE breakfast is provided for your child everyday at school. Special lunch prices are available for those who qualify. The meal forms can be picked up in the office. We encourage parents to purchase meals in advance by the week or month. We do not take money in the lunch line. Please help your child by putting their money in an envelope with their name and their teacher's name.

Absences and Tardies

Parents are to inform the school when their child is absent or late. Any student arriving after school starts should report to the office before going to class. If you child is going to be absent please call the Absentee Line at 509-464-5571.

Arrivals, Departures and Early Checkout

Students should arrive no earlier than 8:00 a.m. as there is no supervision prior to that time. If your student is going to go home a different way than the bus(including walking) they will need a note from a parent or guardian. Students will be released to parents during the school day only through the school office. Parents MUST sign the student out.

Steps to Respect

As a part of our Anti-Bullying Program, Steps to Respect, we are educating all students in skills and knowledge aimed to decrease bullying, increase pro-social skills, and create a safe, caring and respectful environment at our school. Please review the skills and discuss them with your child. We believe that support from home will enhance the effectiveness of this program.

Fire Drills / Crisis Plan

Students have been instructed by their teachers regarding correct exits in case of a fire emergency. Shoes must be worn at all times in school in case an emergency exit is necessary. Crisis plans have been practiced and students have been instructed regarding correct behavior in case of an emergency in the building.
